Tom Quinley my past behavior......
THE BEST PRESENT i've EVER GIVEN: to someone i didn't Know...from someone she didn't know.
It's hardly organ donation, but the best i could at the time........
In the life of medical sales, i was called in to Vanderbilt University Hospital to be informed that i had just lost a "career changing" chunk of business. Trying to maintain a modicom of professionalism i wanted to check my voicemail, in hopes of getting an uplifting message (the truth is, i hated doing this, because it usually meant problems). However, consistent with the day, my cell phone battery had died! i then decided to use the pay phone in the lobby.
It was then, i was standing next to a lady, on the phone, in tears, telling someone to please come "pick her up" because she had just recieved a very bad diagnosis, regarding her disease. She continued to make the plea that she needed to be picked up now because, she had no money, she had been there all day, and she was very hungry. i could not stand it. However, i didn't know how to offer her a contribution, while maintaining her dignity. After she sat down, i the lobby, i took the only money i had, in my pocket, a twenty dollar bill, and handed it to her and said, "excuse me, this fell from your purse, while you were on the phone, next to me."
i couldn't get out of the parking garage...because...i had no money.........
